Ok, so that’s a little premature. Actually, I’m finding that blogging isn’t that much quicker. I proofread and obsess over every little thing whereas in a spoken-word medium, once it’s out there you’re done. Now I scrutinize every punctuation mark, every sentence structure… It’s a lot of previews before I finally hit “publish”.
All that to say, I’m enjoying having the freedom to write about whatever I want. Ultimately I’d like to use this blog to simply make me write more, improve as a writer, and eventually do some books. But that means narrowing my focus sooner or later as well. I got burned out hosting the Handgun Podcast for 3 years, and I’m scared of burning out again. But maybe this is what I need to find that balance.
The new podcast I’m cooking up is definitely more of a “general interest” and entertainment variety. If it’s informational at times, that’ll be a bonus. My goal is to not monologue on the show, but to have a rotating “cast of characters” and always have discussions going on. I’ve already got one who’s said yes, and I think you’ll all get a kick out of him.
I still feel like I’m sorting things out on a technical level with this site, so feedback is appreciated. And I’ve got a ton of essays planned that I need to get busy writing and populate the site with content. But it’s good to have a creative outlet again. And kind of cool to know that I have a plan for this site and and the upcoming podcast, but that’s only just the beginning and I have no idea what it will become from there.
This is going to be fun.
First of all, great job on the photos. I like the colors, textures, and juxtaposition of them.
It’s great to see that you’ve found a new outlet and are broadening your views to multiple topics. I think this is the main reason why you “burnt out” doing The Handgun Podcast. After a point, there’s only so much to say. Flying solo also increases the difficulty. I think the biggest asset to the Gun Dudes is their ability to banter with each other and get multiple viewpoints on the fly.
I’m curious to read your thoughts when it comes to the automotive/motorcycle side. There is a lot of technology in flux now and I’m curious to see how you see the positive and negatives of it along with the influence it has on society in general. Right now you have the great opportunity to see how a different culture views their vehicles, what vehicles are engineered and marketed there, and the fine art of racing.
This is going to be intersting and don’t worry. I’ll be riding along to tell you where I differ.
Welcome back. You were missed!
Eric,
Your insight is sorely missed in the pod-o-sphere. Any blog or podcast you do, whatever the frequency is most welcome!
At one time you welcomed me to the podcasting scene (however short lived it was). Let me take this oppertunity to welcome you to the blogging scene.
Here’s hoping that your writing is as good as your talking (which is to say I greatly enjoyed your podcast so I look forward to your blog).
